In Full View Of God’s Eyes!

Today, I want to share something with you. It may seem simple, yet these moments continually remind me of how near and present God is with us. They also help me see more clearly how we appear in God’s eyes, and how He gently teaches us through everyday experiences.

I couldn’t remember if it was a winter morning or not, but I had just returned to my apartment after dropping my daughters off at school. As I walked into my bedroom, my gaze drifted toward the window. I paused for a moment, deciding to peep outside—and what I saw immediately captured my attention. Little did I know, this simple moment would remind me of how closely God sees us and how gently He reveals His perspective on our lives.

Was it a high-speed chase between police officers and an unknown suspect, you may ask? Nope. Or maybe it was a rare sighting of a ferocious beast? Nope, wrong again! It was simply two young boys, no older than six or seven, on their way to school. I know this appears to be seemingly underwhelming, but what caught my attention was they weren’t taking the usual path like everyone else,  instead, they were climbing a steep hill with a ravine at the bottom - an area I thought was certainly unsafe, for children their age and stature. I stood at the window, unable to look away. What if something happens? What if they slip and pummel into the ravine? I looked on as a concerned, yet intrigued stranger until they both made it to the top of the hill and in open view of the school. Whew! That was a close one.

While on a walk with my son one recent morning, we passed a familiar stretch of road and my eyes were immediately drawn to a distant field. This field is usually occupied by deer, foxes, or the occasional coyote - but today was different. I noticed someone walking out in the field, and from the way their shoulders slightly hunched , I assumed they were a senior. What in the world is this person doing out there? I wondered. We’ve lived in this area for over twenty years, and I can’t recall ever seeing someone walking through that field, on foot! Tractors, yes. People, no!

Much like that morning, decades ago, when I gazed out my apartment bedroom window, I found myself watching him carefully, intently, just in case he fell into trouble and needed help. He was just standing there not moving. Is he stuck? Does he need some help? I couldn’t tell. He was too far out in the field. A few seconds later, a white pickup truck entered the field and was heading in his direction. I stood watching until the truck pulled up beside him, and reassured he was now in good hands, I turned and walked away quietly.

As I walked away, my thoughts drifted to those two moments—the one nearly thirty years past and the one I had just witnessed. I wondered what lessons God was weaving through them. Then it hit me, no matter where we are, even if we think no one is watching, think again. To this day, those two little boys never knew I was watching them in case they needed help or drifted off the path toward the danger of the ravine below. In that stillness, the LORD whispered to my heart: “Remember the times you strayed from the path I set for you? My eyes never left you.” What a comforting assurance.

Another incident was brought to mind.

It was about a year ago, and I was on my way home from an appointment. As I neared an intersection, the light turned yellow, and for a split second, I thought about pushing through but I immediately hit the brakes. The moment I did, my eyes glanced at the rearview mirror and that’s when I saw it - a pickup truck racing toward me, moving too fast to stop. My heart pounded. They must’ve assumed I’d drive through the yellow light and they were ready to follow. I couldn’t look away, as I braced myself for the potential impact that could send my son and I hurtling into oncoming traffic.

What happened next is still a mystery to me. As I watched and braced in fear, it was as if something or someone lifted the truck and placed it into the lane on my right and miraculously, there were no vehicles in that lane. They didn’t hit me! My son and I were safe! Out of fear and awe, I never told my family what happened. How could I even begin to explain what I just experienced? This truly couldn’t be nothing but the hand of God. It was a perfect demonstration of His hand of protection over my life.

As I write, the Lord reminded me of the scripture He gave me last year, Isaiah 52:12 (b): “You will not leave in a hurry, running for your lives. For the Lord will go ahead of you; yes, the God of Israel will protect you from behind.”

I truly believe I am always in full view of His eyes - we are always in full view. Never doubt that God cares about you or that He’s unconcerned about your safety. He is!
